Snow & ice = perfect excuse, right?

0

So I did get up for boot camp this morning, got ready and headed out to my car. It was covered in a thick layer of ice and it was snowing. I decided to not go to camp this morning. Shocking and unlike me, I know. There are no excuses and I made the decision to switch my off day to today and will go tomorrow morning – hopefully Gold’s is open tomorrow.

There were a few things going through my head this morning – it was icy, snowy = dangerous to drive. I get freaked out driving in this type of weather. My body is super sore and I really wanted to go back to bed. See – even the sleep monster gets inside my head and finds the perfect excuse.

So, I went back to bed. No excuses, it was not the right thing to do!

Start (and Stick to) a Strength Training Program in 2010 – That’s Fit.

Lots of articles around this time of year focus on getting in shape. The beginning of the year the gyms will be crowded with good intentions. I figure the more people read about getting in shape, the higher chance that something will stick.

Try Chef Meg’s Island Chicken with Pineapple Salsa.

I love Pineapple and am goin to try this healthier version of Island Chicken. Let me know if you do try it…

Wholly Guacamole – America’s #1 Guacamole.

Have you tried this Guac? I served it at a party recently and it received rave reviews. I offered the Pico de Gallo style which has 40 calories a serving. They also have snack packs at 100 calories a serving. I was in heaven! They sell them at Target and Wegmans, so check it out if you are lookin for some tasty guac that won’t cost too many calories.

Wednesday Workout is complete!

The workout for Weds group session from Plumbline Training:

We did straddle jumps, straddle crunch, and fast jumps on the BOSU for 3 rounds.
Core training was stability ball mania: ball exchange, scissor twists, and crunches & ended with Supermans and hip missions. The Supermans and hip missions work your lower back. A strong lower back is the foundation for almost everything else!

Then we started the 2 round workout: AMRepsAP

hang cleans 85lbs – full disclosure: I had a lot of problems with this one today. I seem to have a mental block on doing these. Its probably my form that needs adjusting because with that heavy weight, form is everything. I can do 65lbs no issue at all.
overhead squats 75lbs (2)
bench press 100lbs  (5)
stability ball exchange
one arm hang cleans 35lbs

PT Station was 25lb dumbbell push press squats, and then jump rope (your weight) 15, 12, 9 reps for time. My time was not much of an improvement from the previous session.

With our week off last week, this session was tough. The weights seemed harder and I seemed out of whack. It will take getting back to my routine with work and eating to get me back on track I am sure.

I am back down to the weight I was 2 weeks ago which is great considering the holidays are here! And although I did eat off my plan, I have tried to be fairly conscious of what I am eating. Everything is in moderation.

I thought I would share with you the beautiful sunrise that I drove home in today. Although this is taken with a Crackberry so you can’t really see the gorgeous pink and purple hues – it was really breathtaking.

What a great way to start off the day – a great workout and driving home looking at something so beautiful.

Hope your day is filled with the same!

Just keep moving…

1

How is everyone doing? Are you still staying active through the holidays. It’s probably one of the most important times to keep moving – with all the temptations we are up against!  So go to the mall and walk if it’s too cold outside or use that gym membership you have!

As Dori says from Nemo: Just keep swimming…or moving…or running…

Even if the weather outside is frightful, like today, you can try this out: http://hundredpushups.com/.

Pushups are a great way to work your core. Push ups are one of the basic and most common exercises for the human body. Push ups are not only great for your chest, but do a tremendous job of defining your abs, triceps, shoulders and torso. Try this One Hundred Push-Up Challenge and in 6 weeks you could be doing 100 push-ups which is Amazing!!

Today’s workout was a doozy for me. I don’t know if it’s having a week off or just being off my regular routine or eating off my regular plan but I am tired.

New Tuesday workout:

core: partner 16lb dynaball tosses, and then ball twists
25 head to head partner double high five partner push-ups.

workout: AMRepsAP  for 3 rounds

135# deadlifts
TGUs 20lbs

Welcome back to camp!

0

First day back after a week break from boot camp. Last week I went to the gym 5 days-I was pretty proud of myself. Mon-Thurs at 530a and then again on Saturday. I figured I would normally be headed to boot camp, so why change the routine. I also let myself indulge in a lot of the holiday festivities, including yummy food. You can’t deprive yourself from things that you enjoy all the time. I have mentioned the 80/20 rule before – If you keep it clean 80% of the time, then you are doing great!

Today’s camp continues on with the Monday workout for this month. We had 9 of the 20 ladies show up this early morning. I am sure many are away enjoying the holiday season.

Last week, I did a lot of cardio focused exercises – I ran a ton, did some weights but nothing like camp, and did a lot of core work. So coming back to camp today – with power cleans, squats etc at the intensity that we go at it in camp – was tough. I could feel the creaking of my muscles. It’s amazing how quickly your muscles adapt to not using them. I always say its sad how fast you can get out of shape, but how long and hard it is to get in shape… not fair!

We started off doing 1 min jump ropes, 1 min turkish get ups (TGUs) – 2 rounds to warm up then  We did a bunch of ab work today: crunches, something else where we connected our knees and elbows and rocked, and then did 6in flutters – 2 rounds
25 bottom up push ups

Workout was 3 rounds AMrepsAP within 1 min timeframe
power clean squats
overhead back lunges/push presses with 45lb sandbag (rest/active)
dip exchange with 25lb kettelbells/pushups
assisted rope climb
tabatas

There’s a party over here, there’s a party over there!

Xmas eve was so much fun. We went over a good friend’s House – H is one of the most fun people I have ever met. We headed over to her house at around 4p and had appetizers and drinks. It feels like home whenever we are there. My mom joined us when she got into town and we had the best dinner ever. Amana Ham flown in from Iowa, homemade cranberry sauce, home made mac and cheese with flown in bacon and to end it all, home made strawberry ice cream and a wonderful Jello pie. Thanks to H for a super duper Xmas Eve!!

Saturday – I headed to the gym. I ran on the treadmill for 60 mins. My friend O ran next to me at the 30 min mark and made it a breeze to do 30 mins more. She starts on her marathon training this week…I then did some general stretching and 40 push-ups on the BOSU.

We celebrated Scotty’s 39th birthday last night. I organized a small get together with his friends at our house. I love entertaining. The past year I didn’t get to do much of it but now that we are in back in the swing of things, I figured I would start to do more. There is something about having people get together that brings home how lucky you are.

My Mom is in town and we had so much fun prepping for the party, decorating and organizing the house. What a great evening with good friends and food.

Is there something else you want?

Or do you want to go ahead and treat yourself, or spend that cash you received as a gift? I found these on etsy and received mine in the mail Xmas eve and I love them – neck warmers!! They are so adorable and practical at the same time. I recently went to the Plumbline Potluck and we did a Russian Gift exchange – where everyone takes a number and you can steal gifts. A neckwarmer so similar to these was one of the gifts that got stolen the max number of times – which was just before I was able to make my selection. The culprit knows who she is. Anyways, everyone loved it and the gift bearer got it at Lou Lou’s in Leesburg. I figured looking on etsy was worth a shot and sure enough – I found this site and the quality is great.
