Now let’s talk about this super funny show that I have recently discovered thanks to a few friends:

So now that I have the elliptical and have been using it in the evenings a few times a week  and that allows me to finally get a chance to watch this show on ABC called Modern Family. Holy crap is this show funny.  So many people recommended watching it for a while and I am so glad I finally checked it out.

I think what makes it funny is it hits the nail right on the head about families, relationships and parents dealing with “modern” kids.  With each episode , I have found myself relating.  I am just finishing up with the holiday episodes and the Xmas one was so good. The kids were accused of damaging the couch and when no one fessed up, the dad went right for the jugular and threatened to take away Xmas – tree and all. And he has a habit of making extreme threats and has to carry it out in order to be taken seriously with the kids.  This sort of thing happens at Casa de Hoaglund often. We will make a threat without really considering the ramifications it has on the entire family and then regret using that as the weapon. I am sure every parent can relate.  I can’t even begin to count how many times after I threatened to take something away, than  regretted it afterward.  Having an errand to run and telling the kids if they don’t come with me,  they have to stay home and clean. And my kids – will totally call my bluff.  Nate will continually say – ok, fine! Then what do I do??? I have to run the errand and then I resort to bribing…it’s a vicious cycle I tell ya!  Or if you don’t eat dinner, you go right to your room for bed. They will say ok and head upstairs to their rooms.   Shit, that’s not what I wanted the outcome to be.

This show is all about those experiences that happen to us all, no matter what the family apparently. The dad is married to a much younger Colombian woman who has a young son, the son is gay and is married to this super sensitive guy and has an adopted little girl, and the daughter is married with 3 kids, each equally challenging to rear but in different ways.   Anyways, I hope you will check it out. You can watch episodes and get more information at ABC: http://abc.go.com/shows/modern-family.  It certainly has helped make the time go by faster while getting in my extra cardio!!
