Losing your Job can have health repurcussions.
0A growing body of research suggests that layoffs can have profound health consequences. One 2006 study by a group of epidemiologists at Yale found that layoffs more than doubled the risk of heart attack and stroke among older workers. Another paper, published last year by Kate W. Strully, a sociology professor at the State University of New York at Albany, found that a person who lost a job had an 83 percent greater chance of developing a stress-related health problem, like diabetes, arthritis or psychiatric issues

Quite a few of my friends lost their job this year. It is quite an adjustment and one that takes its toll on your self identity and purpose. For some, it allows them time to stop, breathe, and figure out what can satisfy their hearts. For others, it’s a stress inducing situation that may or may not force them into action. I do find that things happen for a reason, whether we understand what the reason is at the time. This is a good article to read so you are aware of the signs and feelings that people that lose their jobs go through. It’s not an easy time for many of them — but one that tends to work itself out in its own time.
Sunday
1I headed to Gold’s Gym this morning bright and early. I have been itching to run since I haven’t really had a good run in a while – not that a treadmill run beats an outside run – but with winter here, it has to do.
I ran a 5k and then did some light weight training. I am sore from yesterday’s xfit free class, so I kept it light. I did some core work too – 6 in flutters, 40 BOSU push-ups.
I have no real plans today – which is nice. Gonna spend some time doing some home de-cluttering.
Naptime!
0It’s a silly holiday but I figure I will highlight it anyway:
When is it perfectly acceptable to fall asleep in public? On Public Sleeping Day of course! Every year on February 28, we celebrate the beauty of unrestricted snoozing. Today, take a moment or two to celebrate this holiday by dozing off on buses, trains or even on while you’re on the job!
I personally was born with the gift of napping – so any holiday that tells me to nap – heck that’s my kind of holiday!
Enjoy!
