Learn more about CrossFit, the principal strength and conditioning system

CrossFit Norwalk | Learn more about CrossFit, the principal strength and conditioning system.

As a 40 year old, suburban mom and white collar professional who has personally experienced how HIIT and Crossfit changes your overall health, I will be first in line to share how amazing it is. But even with that recommendation, I still hear how intimidated and scared people are to try it.  Let me help to dispel the myth –because so many of the videos  out there seem to only showcase and highlight the elite, hard core crossfitters — but there are many many more that are just like you and I –Moms, Dads, Students, Previously Injured, Out of Shape Former Athletes who are looking for something fun, challenging and something that works. The thoughts shared by this Crossfit box sums it up perfectly …

Who does CrossFit?

  • Housewives
  • Firemen
  • Computer programmers
  • Beginners
  • College athletes
  • Retirees
  • Ironmen
  • Average people who want to see a change in their body

I’ve heard CrossFit called “intimidating” and “hardcore” and not for the “average person”. I know some of the pictures we post seem intimidating because they show people sweating and doing things that look difficult.

But the reality is that ANYONE can do CrossFit.

We never intimidate, in fact we do the complete opposite. We welcome and encourage and give the average person, like you and me, the opportunity to do above-average things.

Why would you want to do something that looks difficult? Because your body will respond by losing fat and getting fitter. You will see the results.

I used to go to a big gym and I tried to get in shape but my workouts became a boring routine. No one there knew my name or cared if I showed up or not.

When I discovered CrossFit it was like being welcomed into a huge family that cares about you and shows you how to do amazing athletic things at your pace. We are friendly and introduce you to other friendly people. We offer a personal experience that you can’t get at a big gym.

The Food Gods Speak: Michael Pollan and Eric Schlosser Dish About Walmart, National Security, and Chicken Nuggets

Last week, food movement legends Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma, In Defense of Food) and Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) sat down together with Evan Kleiman, host of KCRW’s Good Food, for a fascinating conversation that covered all of the major food stories of the past few months. For those of you who couldn’t make it in person, but want to know when Pollan last ate a chicken nugget, whether Schlosser thinks that Walmart’s new healthy food initiatives are for real, and what they think are the most important things you and I can do to make a difference right now, here’s my recap of the highlights.

Valentine’s Day is for Indian Food

1

Hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day. It’s such a funny holiday to me — you find people who love the holiday, dress all in red totally embracing the romance and joy of it all and then those that refuse to acknowledge that it’s anything more than a regular day.  I’m kind of in the middle — it’s nice to acknowledge the holiday, especially when you have kids but romance and love are things that should be shown all the time in a relationship — it’s hard when the push and pull of life happen but it’s important to not lose sight of it. I have to remind myself of that all the time — I am sure I’m not alone.

We also discovered that Valentine’s Day is a big order Indian food day apparently. We had a repairman at our house into the evening so decided to order Indian and the place was packed — with people picking up their orders. Who knew — Chinese for Christmas, Indian for Valentine’s Day. Learn something new every day…

One of my inspirations Mel from The Clothes Make the Girl talks about what she calls hormone poisoning: the monthly moodiness, food cravings, and motivational slump caused by girly hormones (or the annoying lack thereof) — well i am full swing of that and it just pisses me off because it obviously affects everything including my motivation to get up each and every morning. I am thankful that I am well trained to just jump out of bed when the alarm goes off — but it also affects my ‘game’. My performance overall is off — and I have to remind myself that there are ‘darker’ forces at work –but think about it – mentally I’m off so even with me telling myself its not me, it doesnt register properly.

WOD
AMRAP 15m
20 DUs
10 24in Box Jump
5 KTE

I did a combo of DUs/Jump Ropes. It really is true the more you do them, the better you get — so as frustrating as it is to just keep trying under the 15m timelimit it does pay off. I decided to do 20 DU attempts which translates into a combo of JR and DUs –

Also – Conan advised me to do a Kip Swing while doing the KTEs and boy, it made all the difference! Keeping your arms and core tight also helps with not swinging like a crazy person while doing it. It really is all about technique!
