Happy New Year – 2012
1
What can I say about last year — it was a great year for me. I met some of the most inspiring, supportive people and had more fun than I have had in years. I made major progress in my fitness training, got my CrossFit Level 1 certification, spent time with family and friends, got rid of some of the less than healthy influencers in my life and broke free from some of my hangups. We officially hit the remission milestone in Scotty’s cancer journey, my husband is still my best friend, both of my kids are happy and healthy, met some amazing women who have shown me the benefit of true support and friendship and met a few guys who have helped whip my ass during training. I live a great life –
Oh and I learned how to do a cartwheel this year — thanks to Coach Jerry. Doesn’t get much better than that!
Now that it’s 2012 – It’s time to refocus my energy on eating healthy, working out smarter, and taking my recovery time seriously.
As for my family – focus on having more fun, creating memories and enjoying the moments we have together. Life is so precious and short and it’s way too easy to lose sight of that when you are in the thick of living it.
Career-wise – it’s time to not settle and begin to demand what I deserve. I will leave it at that –
I wish everyone who reads this blog, another year of inspiration, support and hope. I am not special. I am just like the rest of masses out there. I just choose to commit to living healthy and fit, for myself, for my husband, and especially for my kids. I sometimes take the harder routes in my journey but I always find my way back because I committed to living this way – no excuse will be a good enough reason for me to sway too far off the trail for too long. I have worked too hard, met too many amazing people, and feel too damn good to stop now.
Leading by example is the best way to show that it should and can be done. You can do it too!
Christmas!
1
I am still recovering from my night of debauchery — but I started to feel better around 8p last night. The thing with going out when you are my age is the recovery — it takes you way too long to recover. I lost an entire day and there was no way that I could even attempt to resume ‘life’ the way i felt. I was nauseous and dizzy. Oh the joys of getting older. People ask why I don’t drink very often — that’s why. I hate feeling like that.
So instead of yesterday – I headed to CrossFit today for my very own self-inflicted workout and my pal Jason joined me. It was called the 12 days of Christmas and I will forever call it 12 days of Hell.

This workout is done like the song – so on the 1st day of Xmas you run, on the 2nd day you do thruster, then run, 3rd inchworm push up, thruster, run and so on….it’s living hell.
Day After —
0Here’s our turkey from last night — And I have a food coma so not a lot of writing today.
Re-Centering
0HAPPY THANKSGIVING Everyone! I know it’s so cliche to post what you are thankful for — but I’m ok with that. I am so thankful for all the wonderful that are in my life. I have been blessed to have really supportive, healthy people in my life that inspire me every day to put my all in everything I do. Nothing half-assed for me.
Coach Conan was at the helm today and created a very “spicy” workout –

I was tired from my family being here. Lots of laughs and memories shared last night while we started preparations for the Turkey day feast. Nothing like being around family — to re-center you.
And for those asking – I will be eating and enjoying myself today — There are days to when you make the conscience decision to relax, enjoy the company and also the Feast — and the memories they conjure up. My Mom’s corn bread, stuffing, pumpkin pie, cheese, crackers, wine, whipped cream — the list goes on and on ….
Enjoy your day — remember, in the end it’s not how clean your house is or how perfect your feast is — it’s taking the time to re-connect and enjoy those around you.
XoXo
Imagine that Day!

Are we all ready for Thanksgiving? My sister Connie got in yesterday from Oregon and we tackled Wegmans yesterday evening. While it wasn’t packed, it certainly wasn’t empty. All the crazy people with their oversized carts bumping into every corner — oh the joys of the holidays.
My other sister, Deb is arriving this afternoon and my Mom will be here later today. Scott and Nate are way outnumbered for the next few days. Remember to take time to breathe — ahhhhhh…..
Today’s workout had a different twist — power cleans, then a 10m WOD — then power cleans again.

Honoring Our Veterans
0One of the many great things about CrossFit is that it embraces & honors the men and women in uniform. They honor the Heroes who gave their lives to keep us and our country safe with special Hero Workouts.
CrossFit Hero WODs are some of the most intense workout experiences that you could experience. They have been conceived and are intended to be performed with intense effort, in honor of our fallen Heroes. Don’t think to your self, I can’t do that or it looks to hard. Instead focus on what you can do, scale where needed, and think about the Hero that has given his all for our freedom. Honor these Hero’s with your best effort. That’s all that is asked of you — Bring Your Best to the Box…

I wanted to get under 20m but it wasn’t happening – at least not today. It’s cold out and running in the cold just adds more challenges for me and my asthma. I did do the Rx’d 65# in thrusters and man — it was painful. I used the blue band for my pull ups too. And just like they say — Hero WODs are tougher than the norm.
I gotta say though –I am frustrated with the lack of progress I have shown lately. I am strong and in shape but its the technique that I am lacking that is holding me back from progressing. I am going to really begin to focus on practice. As Coach Jerry says –Practice makes Better! Double Unders, Pull Ups, Oly Lifts — all require technique and its that part of it that frustrates me beyond belief. I see others progressing quicker than I –and I think to myself, how can that be? I work just as hard, am just as strong — and for the most part, it comes down to technique. They have the kip pull up, they have the double under –and what I am lacking is focus to practice. I know I am not going to get any better without it — so the question becomes, how bad do i want it? Hmmmmm……
Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!!
It was quite a shock to have snow this weekend and now it’s dark and cold. Nothing like running in the cold weather that seizes up the lungs but it certainly wakes you up. How’s that for seeing it from a different perspective.

Happy Columbus Day, now get to it!
0
Good Morning People! It is indeed Columbus Day and I am not off from my job. My husband and kids are still snug in their beds so it was quite the bummer to come home after my workout and not have hot coffee waiting for me. Life is about adjustments people!
After Saturday’s brutal workout, I took it easy yesterday. I think I was dehydrated and it knocked me down. I slept and drank a ton of water and didn’t push extra hard today during the workout. I know when my body is trying to tell me to take it easy — if you don’t listen, it will tell you louder each time.
Last night, we went to Glory Days Grill in Ashburn. We had recently got a flier that said they carry a gluten free menu! What I liked about this menu was it was a complete menu with modifications to the food they carry on the real menu. So Nate and I had some choices — I had salad with grilled chicken, oil & vinegar on the side. My only complaint, the chicken was scarce. If you lined it up, it was maybe half a chicken breast! I eat more than that!!
When I stepped out this morning, it was chilly but not cold. When I left CrossFit, the sky was the most amazing color pink. You really do miss a lot by sleeping in —

Because I am so sore, I opted to do 53lbs Thrusters instead of 65lb as Rx’d. On paper, this workout doesn’t look like it should whoop your ass, but it does. If I could, i would climb back into bed.
