Beauty Tip: Ole Henriksen
0Today is a rest day — from exercise.
I’ve recently discovered some great skin care products that I wanted to share.
from Sephora:
Nature, science, beauty, and wellness. These four key elements are behind every Ole Henriksen product, making it a total lifestyle line and a true depiction of the man behind the brand. Ole (pronounced “ooh-lah”) Henriksen’s studies in cosmetic chemistry, and hands-on experience treating some of Hollywood’s most famous complexions at his Los Angeles spa, have resulted in the ultimate in at-home luxury—skincare that treats the face and body while helping to achieve overall health and wellness. What we love most? Just like his sought-after spa treatments, every Ole Henriksen product is an absolute treat for the senses—they smell delicious and feel sensational.
I can’t remember where I first heard about Ole’s products but I decided to try them after seeing them at Sephora. I bought one of those specially priced packages that included:
Three Little Wonders
- 1 oz Truth Serum
- 1 oz Invigorating Night Gel
- 1 oz Sheer Transformation
I also use the On the Go Cleanser which I love –
I noticed a difference in my skin in a matter of days. Discoloration and flaky skin issues seemed to lessen and I would say that after a month or so of using it along with my Clarisonic — my skin looks better than ever.
Ole has a whole skin care line so I am sure they have products for every skin type or issue! Let me know your thoughts on Ole Henriksen or what other skin care line you love!
Champion of Health and Fitness
0Superintendent ‘fits in’ at Norris.
We have to inspire and educate kids in being fit and healthy. The more schools that place value and encourage it — the better off we all are! I have given a online speaker session about ‘Creating Fit Families’ on behalf of K12 this past Fall: http://bit.ly/gKdYm7
Jumpin’, dancin’ and groovin’. From teachers to students and even administrators, Norris Public Schools is trying to incorporate fitness into its daily schedule.
Norris superintendent Dr. John Skretta was recently named a “Champion of Health and Fitness” by Fitness magazine.
Skretta said he was honored to be selected as an individual – and keeps some lofty company with actress Jessica Biel, fitness trainer Jillian Michaels and First Lady Michelle Obama – but felt the award was for the entire Norris district.
“It’s been really flattering to be included in that and to be a person who can serve as a spokesperson for an active lifestyle and getting people up and moving,” Skretta said. “I’ve been fortunate to be in a leadership position where I can promote that agenda.”
6 exercises you should always do…
0Harder. Better. Faster. Stronger.
Make sure you click on the link above to read about exercises you shouldn’t do as well. These suggestions also involve using your own body weight for the most part. Look thru this list, and before you hit the gym again, come up with a plan where you incorporate these in a pre-planned workout!
6 exercises I will (and you should) always do…
1. Deadlift because it is the king of all exercises. Working more muscles than any other workout, this lift strengthens everything from your grip to your lower back to your traps to your entire lower body. A strong deadlift literally means great pick-up strength in real life and I’m pretty sure I’m going to be picking stuff up throughout my life.
2. Weighted Pull-up/Rope Climb because it is one of the most challenging upper body pulling movements. You’re not fit if you can’t climb a rope.
3. Sprints/Sled Drag/Prowler Push because it develops speed, endurance and incredible lower body strength. The exercise taxes the lower body so much you have no choice but to get faster and stronger.
4. Standing Press/Push Press because it is the one (and only) pressing movement that has relevance to real life. FYI – If you’re abs are not sore after a heavy pressing session, you’re doing it wrong.
5. Plank/Planche because it strengthens the “core” without jeopardizing any joint or the spine.
6. Push-up because it has more variations than I will ever need, it develops explosive upper body strength and it strengthens the core. In addition to being one of the most awesome bodyweight exercises, it is super functional and relates to real life activities. Also, one arm push-ups are just cool.

For Paleo-ish to go mainstream, it’s got to be somewhat price competitive
0Budget Paleo | Free The Animal
Some good ideas here — not necessarily on board with all yet, but its certainly in line with what I am starting to see and believe….
For Paleo-ish to go mainstream, it’s got to be somewhat price competitive
Let’s face up to it and admit it: the obesity problem in America, and why it leads the way worldwide, can be reduced to an essential single development: cheap “food.” I’m increasingly coming to the opinion that the primary cause underlying that, is the relative cheapness of liquid calories (albeit, not nutrition — it’s just raw caloric energy). And the rest of the world now follows suit because they too are learning — from us — how to supply more calories per dollar and the obvious choice for any company wanting to maximize profit is to deliver their calories in the form of a quickly digesting beverage.
Most of you have heard the arguments supporting that, so I’ll not rehash it (feel free in comments). Now, health markers might be a different subject, but to my mind, there’s no quicker way to get fat than to drink a lot of your calories, and this is what people are doing, especially kids.
It’s not about factory farmed meats vs. grassfed and pastured…..
….You see, here’s one thing about all aspects of all diets and all eating lifestyles, including Paleo: nutritional density and cost are nowhere near correlated. Ounce per ounce and gram for gram, some of the most nutritionally vapid food is the most expensive, while some of the most nutritionally dense is the cheapest.
10 Websites That Help You Recycle Or Reuse Old Stuff & Protect Our Environment
0As a website we run off a server probably kept in a large databank somewhere. Servers do have a hefty carbon footprint, so it’s a bit strange for us to be preaching about eco-consciousness. But hey, we have to get the word out.
And the word is that although the web is contributing something to global warming, it’s also the loudest bugle playing in support of it. Even Greenpeace has a website after all. But this post is not about demerits of technology, but the meritorious ways it can be put to use for the environment. One way is to promote recycling or reusing stuff like electronic gizmos instead of making them fodder for landfills or a rag pickers livelihood.
If your eco-conscience starts to prick, then head out to any of these ten web resources. They can lend a green hand to help you recycle or reuse old stuff and protect our

Some Deals this Weekend!
0A few deals to take advantage of this weekend:
Starbucks is offering a BOGO offer through Sunday:
Buy 1 Holiday drink, get 1 free. Give it to a friend, make a new friend! 2-5pm today-Sunday.
Chipotle is offering a special as well tomorrow:
Check-in at Chipotle using Facebook Places Mobile on your smart phone on Nov 20-21, show your phone with the check-in offer on your screen, and get a BOGO (Buy-One-Get-One) burrito, bowl, salad, or order of tacos.
How to do it:
In order to qualify for the BOGO, you must be physically at the restaurant. Then, you’ll need to check in at that restaurant either through the Facebook Places Mobile app on your smart phone or, if that is… not possible for you, through touch.facebook.com on your smart phone’s web browser to qualify for the BOGO. This BOGO offer will pop up as a deal at the restaurant at which you check in. Show that deal to the cashier from your phone.
How not to do it:
Posting “checking in” on the wall of this particular Event, posting “checking in” on our or your Facebook page wall, changing the status on your own Facebook profile to say “checking in at Chipotle,” and other non-geo-locational check-ins, unfortunately are not acceptable check-ins. Sorry.
Here is a helpful link too, if you have further questions on how to do it: http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=446183422130
Workout to start your week
1
Plumbline boot camp was the same routine we did last Thursday — and it was hard, challenging and I did not finish. I managed to complete half of Round 6 when time was called and it was already past camp time – so I stopped there. I still burned more calories than I have in previous camps so I was happy. As for the scale — I maintained this week, no weight loss and next week is body fat check and that’s what I am really interested in seeing. I see a leaner difference and whether or not the scale moves, body fat, for me, is the key indicator of improvement. There is a big difference saying someone weighs 135lb but has >25% body fat and someone weighs 135lb but has <25% body fat.
I’m tired today – I kept waking up last night thinking it was time to get up for camp and seeing the clock, realizing I had plenty of more time to sleep, then resettling in to sleep some more. Monday’s tend to be like that for me and others in camp. Something about starting the boot camp week off –

Eating Out
The pic above was taken on Friday night. We went out to dinner to celebrate Hannah and Nate’s great report cards. Their choice was Ruby Tuesday. I was thankful for that choice since most of the time it’s ‘Let’s go to McDonalds’ is their usual request. I rarely, if ever eat at McD’s and if I am forced to — its the salad or some other healthy option like yogurt parfait. Ruby Tuesday has a basic salad bar, but I asked for some grilled chicken with vegetables. They had no issue making modifications and it was a fresh chicken breast. I am leery though when I eat out though, because I have no idea how things are prepared. They brought me some mashed cauliflower as one of my sides and one look at it, you could tell they made it with cream — that was a no go for me.
