Summer Workout and the livin is easy

I had such a good day yesterday starting with that great WOD where I kicked butt! My abs are sore and I have a lower back sore from all those sit ups but those I can live with! Yesterday was Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year and the first day of Summer. Hard to believe we are almost into July already.

Once again, first glance seems ok, do-able workout. Holy smokes was this one tough. It’s hot and humid and the deadlifts were the easy part!

Friday means Rest Day! I appreciate this day so much – get a few extra Zzzz’s, get up and don’t have to rush with the kids, and let my body rest. Makes me very happy – I am planning on getting up early to go for a run before the heat of the day comes tomorrow AM.

Free Family Film Festival
We have planned a fun-filled summer of select movies for kids and parents. Regal has proudly offered this free summer fun since 1991. Oh, did we mention that it’s FREE!
Selected G or PG movies start at 10:00am every Tuesday and Wednesday during the festival. Tickets and seating are first-come, first-served and are limited to theatre capacity.
The Free Family Film Festival is safe, lots of fun and a great way for kids to spend a weekday morning in the summer. Tickets for our 2010 Free Family Film Festival are exclusively available at select theatres’ box office on the day of the show.

Today is a great day

Today is one of those days that you sit down and shake your head because you can not believe how fast time has flown. My little baby – Baby Nate – is finishing kindergarten. He will be leaving the haven of the AOL Childcare Center private Kindergarten and in the fall will head to public school. Today is his graduation ceremony. I am sure I will shed a tear of two. How did that much time go by? He was just a little baby yesterday right?
And on that note, Hannah will be heading to 3rd grade next year. She doesn’t know this yet but we have been invited to attend an awards ceremony this morning and she
will be getting an award for her leadership during the school year. Her teacher emailed us last week asking us to come, and that she doesn’t know she is getting the award. How great is that?
I am so thankful that both of my kids are doing so well in school! Today is a great day.

Still a bit under the weather so my initial idea of getting up and going for a run fell to the wayside.
I did want to share some interesting news I have come across the past few days:
Vitamin D and colorectal cancer focus of new Arizona study
U of AZ is my Alma mater and they also have a great cancer center. I am glad to see that they got this grant.
Two Arizona researchers have been awarded a $1.5 million grant from the National Cancer Institute to study the relationship of vitamin D to colorectal cancer. Peter Jurutka, PhD, of the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix, in partnership with Arizona State University, and Elizabeth Jacobs, PhD, Arizona Cancer Center scientist and assistant professor at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, will be spending the next five years on the study.
